Designed by Maya Lin, who also designed the Peace Circle at Juniata College. The Memorial is arguably the most emotionally gripping memorial in Washington. Often described as a gash in the earth, it takes one by the throat and does not let go. This is a simple gallery of 8 pictures, each accompanied by two lines from a poem by A.E Housman, 1859-1936 who grew up close by Bromsgrove in the Midlands, where I played as a child.

The pictures are products of The Memorial's profoundly moving energy. I had felt a similar energy when I first read this Houseman poem. The two lines for each picture in sequence seem to fit. The memorial and poem each deeply affects me..
