Part of the Deesis mosaic in the South Gallery

This shows Christ Pantocrator (all powerful) and John the Baptist. Interestingly, set into the floor opposite this is the tomb of Enrico Dandalo, Doge of Venice, when Venice was essentially at the height of its power who sacked Constantinople in 1204. Outside Constantinople and the ousted Byzantine emperors survived as rulers of the Empire of Nicaea.
