Carter Lake

Caddo Lake... From the eastern bank of Clinton Lake to the western bank of Carter Lake there is a 5 mile (east to west) by 2 mile cypress swamp that is little traversed by boaters. Only one marked boat road bisects the expansive area of thick cypress. Currently, the water level is 3 feet (USGS water level at Karnack) which is one to two feet below the norm for this time of the year. The easiest access point for individuals with a canoe, kayak or pirogue is the Pine Needle Lodge located on the western bank of Carter Lake off FM 805. The owners of the lodge and launch are nice folks. The lodge and launch are gated, thus a phone call is required to obtain the access code.
