They can be a plague for sure. In southern France, they sing along the whole day in summer. Whenn they rubb their wings it makes a crispy and very loud noise. So this song of Cicades or in french "Chant de Cigalles" is very caracteristic to the blue azul coast and the Provence.
great capture . .I remember these from waaaaaaaaaaay back . . . I always found them interesting. 'Course, now I'm older & pissier about everything LOL! We here in the Norfolk area are gearing up for cicadas that they claim will be measurable by "tons per acre"!!!
