Inside Carhouse Seven

This carhouse is an all-metal 62,400 square-foot facility with six parallel tracks inside and natural skylights. The building has a capacity for about 65 rail cars and locomotives. Prior to the building's completion in 2008, the museum's six carhouses were chock full, leaving at least 40 percent of the unrestored cars and locomotives outside and unprotected from the elements.



All of the cars, locomotives and other equipment in this facility are awaiting restoration. Generally closed to visitors, the carhouse was recently opened for a weekend. Seeing and being able to photograph these magnificent old cars in their current state was a special opportunity.
