Looking eastwards across the Willamette River at Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge down below the large blue building with murals of birds. Some 185 species of birds have been spotted at Oaks Bottom. At one time this area was a landfill, but pressure from local groups, Portland Audubon Society and the Nature Conservancy resulted in this area being restored as a wetlands. Just more than 140 acres in size, Oaks Bottom is a Migratory Birds refuge attracting thousands of birds each year. W9F2219.jpg
