Mt. Hood, Tamanawas Falls Loop, Oregon 2015 07 (Jul) 21 my 73rd Birthday

Tamanawas Falls is a popular destination on the east side of Mt. Hood. It can be approached from two connected, relatively short routes that can be combined in a loop. I spent 4 hours, 29 minutes, and 48 seconds on this hike. I took the clockwise route around the loop. When I did this last year in September, I tried to do the counterclockwise route, and got confused and wound up hiking two miles past the Polalli parking lot Trailhead where I parked my car, but fortunately met someone at the parking lot I wound up in who drove me back to my starting point. Today I didn't make any stupid mistakes, although I did get confused where the trail crosses a bridge. Was not a big deal for me, however.

The loop is only 5.1 miles round trip. I started at the East Fork Trail (#650) at the Polalli Trailhead off of Highway 35, to right and east on Trail #650A, continued slight left onto Trail 650B to Tamanawas Falls. Retrace steps on 650B, passing intersection with #650A on right to slight left or straight ahead on Elk Meadows Trail (#645) (sharp left onto #645 goes south and away from starting point) back to starting point at intersection with East Fork Trail.

At my rest spot in front of Tamanawas Falls, a friendly group of 24 people passed me. I was angry that someone would organize such an obscenely large group for a hike and I ignored their friendly greetings as they passed me, one by one, as I counted them off. Minutes later they were followed by two men who amazingly enough, were even older than I was (this being my 73rd birthday). They were 79 and 80 years old and highly educated and well read and we had a jolly old time talking for twenty minutes or more.

Started at trailhead at 9:30 AM (0:00:00 hiking time). Milestones:
1. 2:23:29 o'clock (2 hours, 23 minutes and 29 seconds into the hike): arrived in the Tamanawas Falls area for sightseeing, photography, resting, and a lunch break.
2. 3:24:28 o'clock (1 hour, 58 seconds after previous milestone): started on return loop back to trailhead.
3. 4:29:48 o'clock (1 hour, 5 minutes, and 20 seconds after previous milestone): arrived back at the car.

Took 150 photos of which 57 made the cut.
