The promise of the Timberline Trail. I later read in a guidebook that I was SUPPOSED to bushwhack through the brush and blow-downs I ran into to pick up the continuation of the trail. Should have read the guidebook before going, but didn't know I was going to wind up on the Pinnacle Ridge Trail.
