The main massif of Table Mountain. The trail takes you right to the edge of the 1,500 foot cliff on the upper right of the image, for one of the most astounding views in the Gorge. The trail to the top may be the hardest well-known (if not popular) hike in the Columbia Gorge. I've done it 3 or 4 times, the last time when I was too old and weak and my daughter's boy friend carried my pack to the top. It still almost killed me. At the time, it was a 15 mile round trip hike and it rises to 3,415 feet and is the highest point in the Columbia Gorge on the Washington side. It's only the last 2,000 feet that are the killer. It's 2,000 feet in less than a mile and a half. By the time you get to it, you're already tired from the long approach.
