All the stumps have this crisscross pattern carved in the top of them. I'll bet all these trees were cut down before the area was put under Wilderness protection. This stump is particularly picturesque as you'll see in the next image. This is the stump I used to dump all my stuff on to eat lunch and apply sunscreen.
