After taking the previous image along the cottage road, I was at my wits' end looking for my trailhead and I "gave up," got back in my car, and with great dejection, was intended on driving back to Portland. But I was checking all the side roads as I drove out the way I came in and noticed Forest Road 5401 and recognized the number from my guide book. It was the road to the Trapper Creek Trailhead! So took it and found the trail. Whew! After about 1/4 mile along the trail, I ran into this sign. I should have paid closer attention when I got here, because upon my return I got very confused by the several paths I could have taken. The first one I tried was clearly wrong. After a couple hundred feet, it ended in a dirt road that extended as the far as the eye could see in both directions. Obviously wrong! I took another path that I figured had to be correct, but was confused because so much of it went UP hill, something I certainly didn't remember starting out on my hike. But after a while I ran into a tree that captured my attention and took several photos of on my way in (none made the cut). I gave a sigh of relief and got back to the car in about ten minutes.
