I placed a selection of one eye on a new layer and rotated it several times at 30 degree increments, until it was back in line with the original image.
The degradation might go unnoticed using the entire image, but with a smaller sample, it is easy to compare the eyes for softening of the catch light and increase in digital noise. To my eye, this is apparent at the original 100% image size.
