Last Shift

Wakefield, Yorkshire

In the 1980's Margaret Thatcher smashed the mining communities in the UK. Yorkshire, my home county now houses the MUSEUM of Coal Mining.
I was so depressed, and still surprisingly angry whilst walking round this place. It represents a whole industry and way of life now gone.

This is one of the guides preparing to take a group of visitors underground.

Excellent B&W shot with impact and accurately depicts the type of tones you see at coal mines. +V
As an aside, I've been to many of the mines in Yorkshire when they were still working, and fully understand your anger at the way those communities were dealt with. Markham Main, Kellingly, Wakefield to name just a few.

A very powerful image. I saw a movie about this timeframe and this image really evokes the drama of the time. Well done and well shot!

Great shot - I really like the lighting that sets the mood for the difficult life that miners faced.

He may be a guide to the underground history, but your photo depicts the miners themselves.. very well captured..
