Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas are the gateway cities for visitors of the Lake Region. They were our hub cities where we flew in and out three times, making connections to the next legs of the trip. It was only towards the end of the travel that we had a chance to tour the area. While Puerto Montt has a population of about 100K, and an airport, we stayed in the much smaller, picturesque town of Puerto Varas, which is only 20 minutes away. Many of the photos of Volcan Osorno are taken from Puerto Varas, some from inside our hotel room.
