A sad tale of unlocking a phone

I have a nice older Samsung phone that I wanted to get unlocked so that I could purchase a SIM for it in either the USA or the UK when I visited. I found this would cost me $50, and thought it a reasonable deal seeing that the cheapest unlocked phone I could buy was over $100. So I called and they sent me an instruction sheet that required me to purchase from a competitor a SIM to do the unlock.

I said that's crazy, if I wanted to move suppliers, I would, why do I have to use another companies SIM to unlock when if I was going to have the phone usable here, I get a great deal with you, my present supplier, so why are you sending me to a competitor. The guy didn't know.

Eventually I got it unlocked by a guy who worked at a kiosk in the mall selling decorative containers for phones. A dumb sales effort by the company I use.

The world of cellular phones is complicated and often confusing.

We never have that problem in the U.S. We have every other problem, though.
