This module is designed to help the student explore and become familiar with the numerous compositional options available when taking a picture, placing the subject naturally in a frame or varying the position of the subject to alter the whole look and atmosphere of the picture. The student is also encouraged to examine the photographic possibilities found in patterns, shapes and recurring themes.
Stage One: take a single subject and take a picture that positions that subject in the centre of the picture frame using the frame orientation (i.e. landscape or portrait) most obvious for that shot. Then produce an additional three images using different framing to improve on the original straight forward composition. Repeat the exercise using a completely different subject.
Stage Two: six pictures need to be submitted demonstrating the students ability to identify and capture effectively interesting patterns, shapes, recurring themes and strong use of lines that lead the eye into or around a picture.
