Carl 050404.jpg

Today was the last day of high dose chemo. I received high dose Melphalan.
I experienced no side effects - it was a very smooth cruise.

Tomorrow there'll be one day pause (because Melphalan is stem cell toxic), and on Wednesday, April 6th, I will receive back my bone marrow stem cells.

Hello K,

re: positive thoughts and stem cells

Yes, I do hope they grow as fast as last year.
I keep telling me "in principle, I can go home now" - which of course is not true, but it's nice to think that the major parts of the therapy are done.

Thank you for writing,
best regards, Carl

Hello K,

next thing is the re-infusion of my bone-marrow stem cells, which is to happen tomorrow, April 6th (it's also the birthday of my Lady!).

Then it's wait and survive with a still-empty bone marrow - the new stem-cells have to find their way into the bone marrow and establish the new bone marrow.

This will take between 10 and 14 days (actually, my bone marrow restarted within 9 days when I was last in sterile room, in March 2004. But the MDs tell me there is no way I can pull that off again).

Re: my Lady

Yes, it's good to have such a strong and loving support. Definitly gives me a goal why I have to survive all this...

Regards, Carl

Im so glad that you have your gorgeous lady helping you through this. I think having a loving and supportive partner helping you through such a situation helps keep you strong and focused. You must love her very much.
