Huey P. Long Bridge

Today has been another gray day with misty conditions. I spent quite a while on the Huey P. Long Bridge this afternoon creeping slowly. The bridge has 4 very narrow lanes two on either side of a railroad track. When traveling at very slow speeds you can feel the bridge shake. I usually drive this span with two hands on the wheel and very few distractions. Usually the lights of the city are visible from the bridge. I snapped this while stopped for a few very brief moments near the top of the span.

My day had an interesting start - as I approached the school where I work I noticed Entergy trucks lining the road There was a huge tree that had toppled over in the night from a combination of the many inches of rain that fell over the last 2 days and strong winds. It had taken down most of the utility lines, which meant no electricity. Electricity was restored around 9:15, just when the kids were arriving at school.

Almost monochromatic and dreamlike... mind you I'm not sure that I'd be happy on a bridge like that :)

Scary story but it seems worth getting all shook up for this bold, intense composition. Rarely does being stuck in traffic yield such good results.

I was just saying to Gayle that it is probably warmer back home. Looks like I was wrong. This is a wonderful silhouette

I love the graphic quality of this and the blue sky. I know what you mean about concetrating. Whenever I'm trying to find something or driving under difficult circumstances, I turn the radio off. Like that will make a difference. LOL.

Very nice shot, Elaine. Glad to hear you were creeping along when you shot this.

You need to try going over that bridge on the head end of a train, thinks it's bad in a car??? Nice shot, hope you got your hands back on the wheel fast!!

Makes for a beautiful abstract, I think this would make me want a drink more than doing taxes, LOL.

I like the mysterious quality of this picture. Makes you want to know what is beyond the hand rail.

I agree with Gayle! I hate driving on that thing, especially in my big E-250 van. Ahhh

I get shaky just thinking of you taking this on the Huey P.!
