Mardi Gras Float

M. Cantrell Mardi Gras Den

Today we went to view the floats for the parade. Float builders keep their floats in large "dens". The floats are packed end to end with just enough space to walk around. The floats are used in many different parades, but will have different titles to fit the Krewes' theme for the year. The title for this float is "Harry gets a Wild Hare". Each float is pulled by a tractor which holds the title for the float. The shape of the float and figures are made using paper mache. This float is considered full with 50 people - this is a double decker float.

The den was also filled with past figure heads tucked in many places all over. Here are some of them.

Great commentary Elaine.... it makes sense that these float (with all the work that has gone into them) would be used in several parades. I like how you've captured this one... bright colors and low perspective. Nicely done.

Nice image. Harry gets a wild hair (hare) everyday. He'll be flattered. I think it's hilarious.
