Do you know what happens to your Christmas tree? This is a staging area where we can bring our trees if we want to get rid of them before January 10th. The trees are then used as part of a way to help reclaim our wetlands. The trees are placed in special fences(cribs) and they help to collect the sediment in the water. This helps stop erosion and can form new marshes. The project has been in place in St. Charles Parish since the 1980s. After January 10th, any tree that is put out on the curb without lights, tinsel, ornaments or flocking are collected and delivered for use in the Wetlands Reclamation Project.
