Norfolk Southern GE C39-8

A complete surprise, Clyde King brought this HO scale project to our model railroad club this past Wednesday night 9/12. He never mentioned working on a Norfolk Southern GE, although I have teased him about building an NS unit before. Anyway, Clyde likes General Electric diesel locos, so this will make for a nice pool power unit to run with his other motive power. Typical of his work, what you see below was accomplished in only two evenings... amazing!

UPDATE: After additional contemplation, Clyde has decided to complete this unit as a Conrail C32-8.

A question- did you scratch build the radiator section ? Is there maybe a "kit" I'm trying to build a GE dash 40B that has the same radiator as your C39-8 Thanks Les

Thats really impressive! I'd hate to be a rivet counter, but to have a true C39-8, you'd need to take out the C32's 6 tall door midsection, and replace it with the newer Dash-8 unit's 8 tall doors. You can probably cut these tall door sections straight off an existing Athearn shell, and splice them in. There is also a pair of vents that need to be removed on a C39-8. these are the small upper rectangular vents on the first set of vents under the "wings". Otherswise beautiful. If any C32s made it to NS, I'd say keep it as is, and then start a new C39-8. Or, you could try hacking this one up if its not to much trouble.
