Male Harlequin Duck

Vancouver Island

Wow...the first shots I've gotten of a Harlequin Duck! They were resting along a rocky portion of
beach on the east coast of Vancouver Island. What beautiful ducks, it was a thrill just to watch
them. Harlequin Duck facts: Migrating laterally from interior regions, Pacific Harlequins spend
the winter in coastal areas from the Aleutian and Pribolof islands south to central California. The
Atlantic population winters in coastal areas from Greenland and Iceland south through Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and down to Maryland. ~ Ducks Unlimited
