Ready

Souther Vancouver Island

Not a bird that sticks around in one place too long, this fellow was just about ready to leave when I saw him on this piling. This was the second Belted Kingfisher we saw today...looks like the odds are swinging in our favour for some more possible encounters. Kingfisher facts: Kingfishers are in the order Coraciiformes. There are 86 species of them in the world, but they aren't found in polar regions or some oceanic islands. Most species live in the eastern hemisphere, especially in southeast Asia. There are only 6 species of kingfisher in the western hemisphere, of which three reach North America.
