Great Horned Owl

Ridgefield NWR, Ridgefield, Or

Excited can't begin to describe how I felt when I shot this Great Horned Owl! Thanks to Melissa for letting me know she had seen one in the area...it's great to meet others who are willing to share their sightings. This wasn't and easy shot, lots of greenry in the way and the light wasn't perfect, but he stuck around and let me 'try, try again' until I got a few shots that I could use. Great Horned Owl facts: Like other owls, these birds have an incredible digestive system. They sometimes swallow their prey whole and later regurgitate pellets (call castings) composed of bone, fur, and the other unwanted parts of their meal.

Excellent capture with those big golden eyes looking straight into the camera. Nicely managed surroundings. V
