These iron bindings are on a rubber blasting matt made out of old used tires. The tires are connected together by the bindings to form a large matt. Multiple matts are used during an excavation and are placed over the blast area. They help contain the rocks and debris from causing unintentional damage to the surrounding environment during the blast. This matt was used in a road building project near Duncan, BC.
