Morning Swim

Quamichan Lake, Vancouver Island

This Mute Swan added to the beauty of the morning as it glided quietly across the lake. There's a group of swans on the lake right now and it was unusual to see this one alone. A native of northern and central Eurasia, the Mute Swan was introduced into North America to grace the ponds of parks and estates. Escaped individuals have established breeding populations in several areas, where their aggressive behaviour threatens native waterfowl.
