As I was checking out this wolf he seemed to be checking me out too. I was careful not to move to quickly as a wolves' vision is very motion sensitive and I didn't want to scare him away. Seeing these animals up close reinforced that I wouldn't want to meet up with one on the trail. The gray wolf is the largest wild canine. They are around 3 feet tall at the shoulder and are about 3 to 5 feet in length from nose to tail tip. Their weight ranges from 40 to 176 pounds.
