Black Bears of the North Island: Multiple Galleries

We shot these photos during a trip to Northern Vancouver Island and while we've seen many bear before, we've
never seen as many bear, or ones that were as close, as we did on this trip. All the photos in these galleries
where shot during the end of May and first part of June. Bear facts: It has been reported by biologists that
there are 12,000 black bears on Vancouver Island and the majority of these can be found on the northern end of
the island. In the Spring (April-May), Black Bear can be seen eating the new growth and blossoms of plants
along the road side, or turning over rocks along the oceanfront looking for small crabs and eels. Later in Summer,
the Bears usually move inland to eat the ripening berries. Late Summer (August/September) and early Fall
(October) their diet changes again to consist mainly of fresh fish caught in spawning streams and rivers.

~ Bears are powerful and strong animals; they should always be treated with caution and respect. ~
