In the heart of the Pyrenees, Lourdes receives more than 5 million visitors from all over the world every year.

Spirituality, whether belonging to history or legends, is part of the present through the depth and beauty of the sight, the marks of the past, the serenity of the Sanctuaries.

Saint Bernadette (1844 - 1879) was a devout peasant girl to whom the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared eighteen times between February 11 and July 16, 1858 near Lourdes, in southern France, when she was 14 years of age. On the afternoon of Thursday, February 11, 1858, the first of her seventeen apparitions began. The visions took place in a desolate and locally forbidden grotto in Massabielle, France. Marie Bernard, or Bernadette as she was affectionately called, explained the vision she experienced in these words: "A gentle Light brightened the dark recess and there in the Light, a smile. A girl dressed in a white dress, tied with a blue ribbon, a white veil on her head, and a yellow rose on each foot."

During the ninth apparition, Bernadette was directed to scratch the soil on the the ground and there found water gushing forth. She then obediently drank the water of the stream. Blessed Mother Mary during the 16th apparition spoke the words, "I AM the Immaculate Conception." Mary asked Bernadette to "pray for sinners" and gave the warning "Penitence!" The famous grotto is now surmounted by the Church of the Rosary, which contains numerous crutches and gifts memorializing miraculous cures credited to Our Lady of Lourdes. Nineteen hundred years earlier, Joseph of Arimathea, Mother Mary, and some of the disciples of Jesus went on a journey to Glastonbury in the British Isles, stopping at the site of the future Shrine of Lourdes to establish a Spiritual Power Focus there.

When my daughter's were little our cat had a cancerous tumor without me knowing they used Lourdes water the next morning I checked on him the tumor was gone from his eye my girls told me what they did . Their faith and the water cured him . He lived to be 21. Our holy mother loves us so much we need to have faith and love like our children.

I am a new Catholic since 2008, and even before then I have always wanted to take my Mother who grew up Catholic to Lourdes for a miraculous healing. OK, the best way to get to Lourdes is to fly to Paris, get the TGV to Lourdes railway station (around 5 hours) and then a bus from Lourdes railway station to the town centre.

May I share openly what I inadvertently click as private comment earlier. In 1992, my 6 year old grandson, Jan Michael, contracted a very rare disease that confounded the doctors in a Cannes hospital in France. He had blisters all over his body including his tongue and eyes.Seeing his fast deteriorating condition, a friend of my daughter, pleaded with her to try Our Lady of Lourdes. Reluctant at first, because when they left the Philippines, they had been converted as "Born-again" Christians, unbelievers of Catholic doctines, they finally made a go for it. On arrival in Lourdes they went straight to the Shrine. Upon reaching the vicinity of the Grotto filled with pilgrims and the sick in wheelchairs and stretchers, they heard the murmuring as if in one voice, of familiar prayers and songs they knew earlier in their lives. Struck with awe and suddenly piety, my daughter fell to her knees sobbing and her husband followed suit and they cried unashamedly together as God and Mary awakened them into reconversion! They bought gallon-sized containers and filled these with the miraculous waters from the taps. They took the next train back to Cannes and went straight to the hospital where her sister-in-law, a Filipina nurse, who was caring for Michael immediately bathed the boy with the first gallon of Lourdes water. The next day the blisters showed signs of drying up astounding the doctors there! In one week, he was released from the hospital. But, nobody thought of having it documented for repository in Lourdes!

My wife and I have gone to Lourdes twice already and each time, we bathe in the baths. Just as my grandson was cured by her miraculous water from the taps, I, too, experienced a cure of my severe ailment the first time we went there, not instantly but in about a week after we left. And so, I thanked our Lady when we went there the second time around.

Hi my name is Kim years ago my Great Aunt Gretchen (Sister Maria Mercedes of the teaching Sisters of Notre Dame Baltimore Maryland) gave me a thick glass bottle maybe 4 inches high tha lid is still taped and the water from the Grotto in Lourdes, France is evaporated on the front of the bottle a small piece of paper in type-writing says water from the Grotto in Lourdes,France I have never opened it because it's empty but am curious as to how old it could be if anyone has pictures and can show them I am so curious. I promised myself never to open it because even though there is no water I feel it's sacred.Anyone have bottles that sound like this?

Hi, My name is Dr. John Apsley. I have been researching Alexis Carrel, the Nobel Prize winner in medicine, who witnessed a miraculous healing at Lourdes on May 28th, 1903. I will be giving a featured presentation this June in Chicago to a large health symposium and would like to ask your help for two things. First, may i use your materials, giving you proper credit, in my presentation? Some of your photos are simply earth-moving. I was miraculously healed on the 8/12/2008 at Lourdes I believe it was during the exposition of the eucharist......It's a long and somewhat far fetched story and for this reason have not been able to share the experience.....But was called to Lourdes by graces of knowledge that appeared in my head...the price and day even the actual pilgrimage were revealed to me...It was a day trip were I traveled the previous night by coach from Heathrow and then took a flight with other pilgrims from Manchester to Lourdes.When I arrived in Lourdes I had seen much of it before in the previous weeks during the time just before waking...On returning home a days later again in a dreamlike state I found myself up near the Grotto and then the words kaemia and then another word Luekaemia....I did 'nt want to leave this state it was like a television graphic were the screen zooms in and then turns over the only difference was I was in the experience not watching it........It was a soft warm sensation and included sensation like being in a lift....A few days later a similar experience happened were I saw a figure of a child it is only recently that I worked out that it is possible for adults to have childhood Luekaemia and you can have the disease for years which must have been in my case.....However I have never reported how I feel to the doctor because I thought I had an ME like complaint and just got on with life never imagining I had such a thing.......Now I am in wonder and love to sit on my bed with a cup of tea and look at a picture of Our Lady of Lourdes thinking about that other dimension that I know is there and how wonderful she is yet so humble.....I did start to tell my doctor but he had no time for me and said the mind is strange.......But now as time goes on I never have the weaknessI had previously for years. I would love to find a Christian doctor who could give me some tests but however being only human I am nervous and don t know what to do.....I have heard the Blessed Mother loves the heavenly Father and tell my experience to give glory to God......

I visited the Lourdes shrine few years ago with my family. We cannot explain the feeling we had at Lourdes.It was truely amazing. My little daughter prayed for Our Lady for her blessings to have a brother and now she is blessed with a brother after long years. Hope to visit with new born when pocket permits,the services of volunteers at the shrine is remakable and wish I too must serve there at some day as a gratitude to the blessings we had .Finally ,a visit to the Lourdes is the blessing for life time

I went on a pilgimage with my parish in 2007 and one of our stops was Lourdes. While there I had the opportunity to visit the home where Burnadette lived. If you've never been there I highly recommend it. I can't explain the feeling I had while I was there in this holy and peaceful place. These are beautiful pictures.

I visited the Grotto Our Lady of Lourdes , France in July of 2006 wiith my father who was suffering from liver cancer and with my sisters Lupe and Angie. While we were there we all went to the baths and to confession, and to the Stations of the cross. i had also visited in June of 2006 with my husband Charles. I will never forget the peace and love I felt when we visited the shrine. I would love to revisit the Shrine. My father Pablo calls the Virgin his only Doctor and he is doing well with his cancer. He walks every day for 2 ,iles. Thank you BLessed Mother for your constant help!

These pictures are wonderful and amazing. I have been to lourde. My Dad is buried in the Irish Plot at lourde. I was hoping to see one of the Celtic Cross that covers the Irish buriel tomb. Im always searching the web for a picture of this but alas!!. My Dad was only 52 in 1971 when he died there, I was 20 years old. Us older ones helped my Mam rear the 11 children his death left behind. We all miss him still so much. he was a great loving Dad. { Dia Linn Dad} God to you. Our love and missing You goes on. Lena.

Me and my husband went on a two week vacation across europe by airplane and mostley by train and decided to go to lourdes instead of paris on new years day in 2008 coming from london.Well those three days for us were worth it. Lourdes is a beautiful, spiritual, and holly place to be.Just by being at the grotto will touch your heart with joy and peace.Must visit!God bless you all!

Please send me an address to send my letter to be place at the Lady of Lourdes church.Two years ago, I came across with a testimonial from a lady, how her prayers has been answered, she's very kind to give that address.I have a daughter that's serving in U.S.Army and deployed in Iraq at that time.I wrote and asked the Lady to look after my daughter.Our Lady of Lourdes kept my child safe, my daughter called one week end, told me that she supposed to go on patrol, but, she was asked to stay instead.She was spared that day, my prayers was answered.

Lourdes was the best place that I have been visited in France. Its the solemnity of the place, and if ever I have an opportunity to live in Europe, I prefer Lourdes, because I could feel the blessings of Mother Mary.

I just came back from visiting Europe and I can tell you that visiting Lourdes was the height of my trip. You can truly feel a special presence there. If anyone has the opportunity to visit, DO IT!!

If you have real great info on miracles that did and still do take place in Lourdes, plus some pictures ( in case they would be existent ), I would need them all for the exposition over miracles to a class of law school in my residency country. I think it is important to consider that the trip by Joseph of Arimathea and Mary is based on Legend. For more info, google Glastonbury Abby, British Isles. God doesn't have to set up spiritual power foci in advance for Himself or his Mother. Pictures are wonderful. Thanks for this chance to review the holy site.

awwww... i went to lourdes on my work work experience in 2006 and i luvd every minute of it!!! i wud luv to go agen and i recomend it to absolutely anyone who enjoys new experiences. i have to say it was the best week of my life and i can't wait to go back agen in 2008 the pictures are amazin.. they bring back lots of memorries i have from that week. thnx to everyone xxx

My husband and I are going to Lourdes in Oct this year for our 50th annivesary I have had this wish since I was a little girl,my favorite saint was and is Bernadette we will also be visiting Nevers where she lies.My father was from France so we are also visiting La Salette near where he was Born. My wife and I have gone to Lourdes twice already and I hope to visit it once more for a longer stay to be able to visit all the important sites in the whole of Lourdes. These are good pictures of some of the things seen in the Shrine. But, I hope you post some more pictures there and also other sites in town.

I was in Lourdes in June, 2005 with my daighter and her students from Cor Jesu Academy in St. Louis , Missouri. Words cannot explain the overwhelming feeling of the presence of Mary here. It was felt by all. Pat

These pictures are beautiful. I have been to Lourdes with the U.S. National Pilgrimage many times. This pilgrimage goes every year and will be going again in 2006 from July 1 - 10. It is wonderful to experience Lourdes with other Americans, processing with other Nations with the flag of our Country. There are people who have posted their desire to go to Lourdes here. Please let them know about this special pilgrimage to Lourdes which also is accompanied by a medical staff. If anyone wants more information about the pilgrimage, I will be happy to post it.
