Gulls and Terns

Central Park in New York City serves as an important winter habitat for migratory gulls, primarily around the Reservoir.

Common cold-weather species resting on the water include the Ring-billed Gull and the American Herring Gull, along with winter rarities like the Arctic-born Iceland Gull which returns almost every year.

This gallery also features coastal photography captured at colonies on Nickerson Beach, Long Island, highlighting breeding Common Terns and Black Skimmers alongside Laughing Gulls seen on Governor's Island.
