Ken was a fireman most of his life, starting when he was a preteen in Cambridge MA when he would hitch a ride on the back of fire
wagons in the ‘40’s to help with fires. To rising through the ranks to deputy fire chief in Milford NH. He was an expert at determining
the causes of fires. He was in the National Guard for nineteen years. He loved trains and model trains, building an extensive garden
scale layout in his backyard in NH, with hills and ponds. When he and his wife moved to the Villages in Florida he switched to
building garden scale modules which are 4 feet by 2 feet on legs that would bring them up to about 4 feet high. The train tracks
would enter each module at exactly the same spot so that they could all be strung together and with corner modules make quite a
big circular layout. Ken filled his garage with modules and would put them all together at Christmastime in a big room at the Villages.
There would be at least four modules across the ends and at least six modules on a side. Each module would have different modeling,
there was a burning house module, a trestle module with a waterfall, a village street, an industrial siding, etc. It was a delight when
the train ran through it and thousands of people came to see it. He was working on one last module, this time at HO scale, when he
died. I will remember Ken for his intricate and fascinating storytelling, you could never tell where one of his stories would end or how
many detours it would take before it arrived there. He was a gentle soul who also loved cats and gardening.
