Oh, there you go: "At Saint Mary Cemetery in Milford, Massachusetts a round tower was built in the late 19th century as a memorial to central Massachusetts' Irish immigrants, of whom thousands are buried there. Built of Milford granite, it is the only such structure in North America."

The Vikings were everywhere, you know. Here's more about these towers, and I'm happy to see that my little story seemed to be an official one as well. Under "Purpouse" is the same kind of info :)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_round_tower

It's taken in KY. I'm not sure the Vikings made it that far, but maybe the Virginians!

Oh, where's this taken? I saw some of those towers in Ireland and was told that the monks rushed there to hide when the BAD Vikings from evil countries like Sweden came there to plunder. The people in the village were killed, but the monks were in there with all the "good" things that needed to be saved. The Vikings couldn't figure out how to get inside the tower, because the monks had removed the ladder that lead up to the entrance. I don't know how often this trick actually worked. The Vikings must have figured out a way to get in there, wouldn't they? But then again, they were probably drunk, so I don't blame them for not being able to figure it out.
