Scytodes thoracica

Vienna, Austria

Engl. Spitting spider Dt. Speispinne
Another one of my pet spiders, or rather a infrequent visitor. The first time saw one this year, I was so sick that I was not able to take a good photo. This time, I spotted the spider around midnight on the ceiling , so I went to the cellar and got the ladder. I climbed the ladder (my rooms are more than 3,5 metres high) and tried to get a grip with the monopod on a shelf. Must have been quite funny to watch...
This is a very special spider. Its method of hunting is unique among spiders. The greatly enlarged abdomen contains special venom glands that can squirt a sticky venom onto prey. For this reason it is known as the 'spitting spider'. (cit.from the website Nick's spiders)

Nice shot, btw. Too bad you couldn't get a SP of you taking it. LOL.

I hope you were wearing goggles to take this shot.
You don't want him to direct his venom toward you.
