Regular visitors of my pad gallery may know this passage way from a previous version. This shot was taken from the opposite side, and I tried to break the strict symmetry (at least a bit ;-).

@Lawrence: Thanks for taking the time to comment so extensively on this image. I am really impressed with your analysis, and probably it will be the best to go to the spot again and try to do another version incorporating your suggestions. Basically this was a street shot I took during my lunch break. As you correctly notice, I underexpose almost all my images -2/3 for convenience, because thereby I can avoid overexposure of the brightest spots, which would make the image unusable. Usually, it is no problem to brighten it when developing the RAW-file. In that particular case, the difference between the bright and the dark parts was so great, that it originally was almost impossible to see the grey gradations within the dark part. To make them visible, I brightened the dark parts with the curves function. That explains the noise. As for the focus, I usually use autofocus for convenience, but in such situations it certainly woudl be better to switch it off (the same is true for the exposure program, of course). Well, as a kind of conclusion, I will have to take much more care at the time of taking the picture, as it is not always possible to correct mistakes in PS afterwards (especially with my limited skills).
