The Russian Republic, usually referred to as "Russia". The Russia of today is incredibly politicized. When people are not talking food prices, they are talking politics. Mass rallies are held in major cities almost every weekend. TV and radio, films and books are full of politics. Russia is a place of extravagant architecture and artistic
acheivement with a people who can be disarmingly warm hearted and hospitable.

In the portraits, there is a perfectly precise balance between keeping subject both posed and relaxed, both alert and aware of you as photographer and being into his/her own head. In man in the street shots, you have framed the poingancy and captured the dirty lighting and individual lives. We could hear the bustle smell the smells and touch the grit.

These are beautiful very high quality images. However the subjects seem very one-dimentional. It is easy to shoot stereotypes.

Great photographs. Uhh, POMAN, not sure what atlas you are looking at, but Russia is unquestionably the largest country in the world by far. It is 6.6 million square miles. The next biggest is Canada and it is 3.9 million square miles.

Great B&W photography. Yet, Russia is certainly not the "largest" country in the world nor is it a republic (rather, a federation).
