Wengen Area

Wengen is a delightful small Swiss village on a hillside, up from the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The area is criss-crossed with trains, funiculars, gondolas, buses, hiking trails, etc. Some of the highest peaks in Switzerland form a snowy backdrop. The first day we went to Murren, across the Lauterbrunnen Valley from Wengen. From there we took a 2 gondolas to get to the Shilthorn, a revolving restaurant made famous in the Bond film, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". The next day we took a gondola from Wengen to the ridge top, then another gondola down to Grindelwald. The gondola down was 30 minutes long and passed over herds of cows, all wearing bells. For our last day, we took a train to Kleine Scheidegg, a high mountain pass with hotels and restaurants. From there another train to the Jungfraujoch, the "top of Europe". Restaurants and shops are here along with and ice cavern and great views.
