Wednesday, June 20th

We started by taking a tour of the winery at the chateau where we were staying. The highlight was the limestone cave where the wine aged, 21 meters or 70 feet under the chateau. After that we went again into St. Emilion to wander the narrow, hilly streets until meeting for lunch at a place Ron found, L'Envers du Decor, where we had a fine lunch in the outdoor courtyard. Lil and I had previously been to the Medoc area, north of Bordeaux and while they produce fabulous wine, the area is flat and lacks the charm found in the St. Emilion area.

After lunch, we went on another wine tour at Chateau Pavie-Macquin. Our guide was an Irish girl named Sara Walsh who loved wine and France. We had an great tour from her and sampled some really great wines. Pavie-Macquin had just been promoted to Premier Grand Cru from Grand Cru. She confirmed what had been written about the 2005 vintage for wines in that area, it will be one of the very best, if not the best. It will also be priced accordingly!! 2004 is a good year and not as expensive as 2003 or 2005. We also had dinner in St. Emilion at a fine restaurant, Le Clos du Roy.
