Thursday June 21

We left Chateau du Roque and took the scenic, less travelled route to Sarlat, our destination. Along the way, we passed through a number of small towns, many with an impressive Chateau, like Beynac and La Roque Gageac. Just south of Sarlat,we drove up the hill to Domme, a charming town with a great view of the Dordogne River and Valley. It was market day in Domme, so we wandered around and ended up with a stand-up lunch of hot crepes, fresh from the griddle. Into Sarlat, we found our hotel, La Madeleine just at the edge of the old town, a perfect location. Sarlat benefitted from government money and much of the old town has been restored in the past 30 years. Sarlat has become a tourist destination. This evening we ate outside at Le Presidale, a very nice restaurant.
