Friday, June 22nd

We wandered through Sarlat for a good part of the morning, looking at shops and the Cathedral. We left about 11 to go to Rocamadour. Rocamadour is built into the side of a cliff and some spectacular views of it can be had from the road leading in. We took a mini-train from the parking lot to the main shopping area. We missed the sign for the elevator to go up to the religeous area. The town is named after St. Amadour whose body was discovered here in 1179. There are several chapels higher up the hill.
Leaving Rocamadour, we headed for cordes-sur-ciel, Cordes of the sky, so named because it sits on top of a hill and looks like it hangs from the sky. The approaching view is very impressive. Our hotel was Le Grande Ecuyer, the nicest we stayed in on our trip. The rooms we large and nicely decorated with views over the surrounding countryside. We could see sheep in a nearby field and watch them come, single file, into the barn then later return to the field the same way. In hotel restaurant had earned 1 star from the Michelin folks so we had to eat there. We started with a drink in the lovely salon, then dined in the restaurant where there was a window into the kitchen. Quite a dining experience (beaucoup $$ but worth it for a special experience).
