Waterhouse Stop for Broken Sonagar Lens and Nature Preserve

I had this lens in my Parts bin for a long time. Glass is near perfect, but the aperture blade assembly is broken and I failed at attempts to fix it.
I had a mental flash this week, one way of redeeming the glass... I opened the lens at the middle and made my own "waterhouse stop," a hole of predetermined size. My calculations suggested that a hole 10mm in diameter, placed just ahead of the old blade assembly, would produce an aperture of approximately f:8. This seems like a good compromise aperture for a 135mm tele lens. Hole is in a piece of black card stock, held in place with part of a juice bottle lid.

Lens has threading for T Mount, meaning that with suitable adapter, it can be fitted to virtually any SLR body.
With a P/K adapter, I fitted it to my digital Pentax *ist, set to aperture priority mode. I figured I could get additional control by varying the ASA emulation.

Set started out here at home. Then I drove 10 miles or so to that wonderful little nature preserve in Sappington and walked the trails.
In my opinion the optical performance of this lens was excellent.
And I enjoyed the challenges of walking in the woods in mid 90s heat, and restricting myself to the use of one single lens, and a long one at that.
