The Meramec at Valley Park December 2017

It was cold today, but dry. It has been mostly dry lately here.
From road level I have seen the Meramec River drop to historic lows with much of the riverbed exposed.
I wanted to see it up close, so today, December 15, I went to visit the river at Valley Park.
My camera today was a Pentax K110 D with the 18-55 mm zoom lens.
Not all was as expected.
Despite the drought, up close it was quite evident that the river still carries an enormous volume of water, with a lot of power and some really sobering depths in places. It made me very cautious not to get too close.
The images were surprising to me in other ways. This is mid December and about a week from the shortest day of the year. At "High Noon" the sun was still very low in the sky. It was noticeably dim out there, the lighting subdued, and even software would not change that much in the images.
No snow here yet, not even close... but that might change next week.

All images are hand held, f:8 f:11 and f:16, camera set at ASA 800, and focused manually (this particular camera body has broken auto focus).
