Samoca 35 III with Trains

An interesting little camera, unique in some of its mechanics.
Samoca 35 III, Japan circa 1950.
This example was pretty much a total wreck, shutter not working, large cracks in the plastic body, and a large hole with missing section on a front corner.
I glued the cracks, filled the hole, replaced some leatherette, replaced some missing screws. And a flush cleaning got the shutter working... but only at one speed, soemwhere between 1/50 and 1/100 second.
Friday February 20 was a gray and dismal day. I loaded the Samoca with a roll of Fuji 100 print film and went back to the Museum of Transportation near Kirkwood.
The original removable-type takeup spool was missing, and I did not quite get my replacement spool (from a 35mm film cassette) sufficiently modified, so the film advanced at an angle. Each frame on the negative strip was skewed in about a 2 degree rotation, and apparently did not lay quite right at the film plane on the takeup side. I was able to correct the skew digitally after scanning, but the left side of each image is a bit softer in focus than the rest.
But all things considered, the results are not that bad, for a 59 year old reborn-from-the-dead camera on a dreary day.
