Cicadas

I was going to try to do some work outside today, but a few minutes convinced me that the noise of the cicadas was potentially deafening, and could drive me stark raving mad in short order.
This is the loudest cicada emergence and mating season in recent memory here in eastern Missouri.

Captured with Pentax *ist D and 18 - 55 lens, at or near closest focus.

sometimes i hate being at my friends house because the cicadas are just too loud!! but the pictures are really beautiful.

This is the fifth cycle of cicadas in my life so far, and this is by far the loudest. They are about to drive me crazy. Your photos are remarkably beautiful.

I remember hearing these little critters performing in the cottonwood trees on hot
summer nights when I was a kid. Nice closeup work Ed.

Insane. One of Colorado's attractions for me is no crazy big bugs (at least along the front range, out on the plains they have their share). They are remarkable in their appearance but I'm sure you're glad it's not an every-year event.

Nice shots Ed. Did you ever use a Raynox Macroscopic Lens, say a M-150? Never been a big fan till I tried one. Also saw a presentation in Charlotte and it does very well for any subject where a macro is needed.

Wow! we are not experiencing your deafening problem. I can remembering the noise from these insects both in your area and in Peoria at different times. You are lucky to be able to show the beauty of this creature. The ones I recall seeing did not have the beautiful colors of these who have such a short life. Try to appreciate their beauty.
