Argus C4R with Geiss Mod, Home Gardens and Rockford Beach

A camera quite scarce that I have long sought after is the Argus Model C4R (last variant of the C4, Rapid Wind lever) with the Geiss lens mount modification. There has been debate as to whether the modification was still offered by Argus or Geiss America when the C4R went into production.

So I thought, what if I try to build my own Geiss modified C4R, using parts from two cameras in my collection?

And it worked! It was not as straightworward as first thought, since the Geiss mount meant using shim plates adjusting the distance from lens to film plane. But patience paid off.

When I had my chance to give the camera a film test, I loaded it with Fuji 200 and started with our home gardens, then went out to Big River at Rockford Beach to finish off the roll.
Film went off to Parsons, Kansas, for developing. It took two weeks turnaround, they must be busy.
In the time since I shot the images those tomato plants have grown more than twice their height.

The Argus 50mm lens did quite well.
But the 100mm Lithagon lens was a disappointment. I think it needs a complete overhaul and internal cleaning.
The variable finder was also a disappointmnet, its aim was off by a good margin.

After the test shots below I am attaching a few images of the process, and the finished C4R, Geiss Modified.
