The Argus C4R was the culmination of the C4 production run. Like all C4s, it featured coupled coincident rangefinder, focus from 3 feet to infinity, f:2.8/50mm lens, hot shoe, and removable back. It was different in a few ways: lever film advance instead of knob, stow-away rewind crank instead of knob, provision for attaching the CM2 meter (which coupled to the speed dial), and shutter speeds marked in the more modern 1/8, 1/15, 1/30, 1/60, 1/125, and 1/300.
Only 5,000 of the R variant were built, in 1958. After several years of Argus collecting, I have finally managed to acquire a working example.
The film test was on Saturday, October 15, 2005, at the Museum of Transport in St.Louis County, Missouri, and at a park along the Meramec River.
Film was Konica/Minolta ASA 200.
