The Bolsey Model C (from 1950 to 1956) is a strange little hybrid, featuring both rangefinder focusing and twin lens reflex function, in a compact design for 35mm film that is smaller in dimension than most cameras of its day. The bottom half is very similar to a Model B2. It also has the same rangefinder arrangement, but the top of the body is further extended and the shutter frontplate is also expanded. The top incorporates a fixed position mirror and a very nice waist level finder with foldaway magnifier. The frontplate of the shutter at the upper end holds a second high quality group of lenses for the finder. The example I found (relatively cheap) had some of the RF glass missing or broken and the shutter had been gutted, many internal parts missing. I was able to rebuild the rangefinder and cut new glass. For the shutter I bought a working B2 and extracted the shutter assembly. The two models had less than obvious differences in their subassemblies and some modifications proved necessary, but we got it all together and calibrated. I loaded the reborn Model C with Konica / Minolta ASA 200 print film and took it to the St.Louis Zoo for a quick test on Sunday, June 12, 2005. Camera performed fine. All images ©2005 E.J.Kowalski
