Baby Bird

This baby, I think young Bluejay, was sitting in the rubber plant next to our front porch today.
We don't know how it got there, and a little later, it was gone.
Images captured hand held from up close with Pentax ist D set to ASA 800, and 18-55 mm zoom lens.

Ed, this is definitely a Blue Jay. Years ago we rescued a baby Jay that fell out of a tree and landed on the ground. I took him up to my bedroom, a converted second story Sun Porch, with 12 windows, four windows on three walls, and named him Spike. Fed him cat food with tweezers, and gave him water with an eye dropper. I spread all surfaces with news papers. The room had no AC so I had the windows open most of the time. The parents of the Jay knew he was there and would sit on the power lines and talk to him every day. He used to sit on our heads and shoulders, have lovely pictures of this. When he could fly from one side of the room to the other we took him outside and released him. His parents fed him when he would perch on a branch, flapping his wings. It was a wonderful experience for me and my kids. Aja.

Definitely a blue jay, and obviously landed her from it's first flight attempt. They take a lot of coaxing at first, but soon fly away.I had a similar experience a few years ago.

Love the courage it took for that little bird to stay for his portrait to be taken! It reminded me of the time I was sitting on the patio and a humming bird came up and hovered just above my shoulder for about a whole minute before it flew off.
