Agfa Ansco Argus Hybrid on Big River

Someone else started this project.
I purchased the camera in an unusable state at auction.
With some perseverance I repaired and completed the making of the "monster."

Body is from an Ansco Memar type camera, made in Germany during the 1950s.
The lens and shutter assembly are from an American made Argus Model A-four, also 1950s.
Somehow, the combination looks kind of "right."

There were several mistakes I had to correct, in the earlier owner's attempts to reassemble the viewfinder, the wind lock mechanism, the attachment of the front assembly to the rear, light seals within the body and mount area, and the distance of the lens from the film plane.

Today I saw a good opportunity to try it out in the field. I loaded it with a roll of "Walgreens" asa 200 film from my freezer stock, and headed out to the old Rockford Beach mill site.
Big River is a major tributary of the Meramec River. The grist mill structure at this site was removed in the 1960s, but the mill dam remains.

These 9 images were the most decent of my results. Several of the rest were rather soft. Maybe I need to work a little more on exact film to lens registration distance. The location of the working shutter release, down on the side of the lens barrel, also may have affected the steadiness of my technique.
But I would say that this is a Monster Camera of some level of success.
