Argus A3 in Sunset Hills 060615

Saturday I needed to get out, so I loaded up an Argus A3 with a roll of Fuji 200 and walked the woods in two locations in Sunset Hills, MO.

I think the Argus A3 is one of the most elegant looking cameras ever made.
It dates to circa 1941, and production was stopped when US entered WW II.
The long window in the top section houses an extinction meter type gradated film strip. This system is so slow and complicated to use that I generally ignore it and rely on guesswork or separate meter for exposure settings.
This camera does NOT have a rangefinder. It focuses down to an incredibly short distance of 15 inches, but gauging the distance is either by guesswork, or by using a separate rangefinder device.
The shoe on top of the camera is for attaching an auxiliary rangefinder if one so wishes. It is NOT a flash shoe. Camera has no internal wiring, and does not support any sort of flash photography.
I found that plugging an external cable release into the threaded socket on side of the shutter helped in reducing camera shake while releasing the shutter.

Camera did not perform very well on this outing. There is considerable internal flare and/or light leakage that was not evident with a bench inspection.

Images below are the best I could salvage from my outing, assisted by a little digital editing.
