Although winning a ribbon is rewarding, it’s really just icing on the cake. I’m a firm believer that in order to really improve, those images must get off the hard drive and be seen, even if only by yourself. The exercise of printing and matting an image forces you to take a much harder look at your work, which in turn leads to better photographs in the future. Being seen and judged by others only speeds that learning process.
